Smashing Pumpkins to headline V festival

16.03.07

The "Smashing Pumpkins" have confirmed to headline the Virgin "V" festival in Toronto this summer, 2007. They will be headlining the second date Sept 9th. Icelandic diva Bjork will be headlining the previous evening at the festival, which will also include support from the likes of "the Killers", "Amy Winehouse", "Interpol", and Paolo Nutini, amongst others.

The recently reunited "Pumpkins" are due to release their new album called "Zeitgeist", in July 07. Singer Billy Corgan and drummer Jimmy Chamberlin are the only two original remaining members of the band. The project included producers, Roy Thomas Baker and Terry Date, who has previously worked with grunge meisters, "Soundgarden", and more recently Brit rockers, "Funeral for a friend".

Morello rocks the house

15.03.07

Tom Morello and co. rocked the house at the SXSW, (South by South West), festival. Star appearances included.. wait for it....Slash, Perry Farrell, ("Jane’s Addiction"), former "Extreme" guitar virtuoso Nuno Bettencourt, "MC5" guitarist Wayne Kramer, and the untouchable Les Claypool, bass and frontman for "Primus".

Morello’s performance was originally only intended to reflect his solo "Nightwatchman" project, and he did begin with several songs. Yet once the very special guests appeared, all rock was let loose, with renditions of "Mountain song", (Jane’s Addiction), "Kick out the jams", (MC5), "Guerilla radio", (RAGM), before a final onslaught of electric guitar mayhem ensued.

Boston frontman commits suicide

09.03.07

The voice of mega group "Boston", Brad Delp, this week sadly took his own life, although the motives for his suicide are still not clear. Brad left several notes advising he intended to take his own life. He was found in his house by paramedics. He had died of carbon monoxide poisoning. Several notes were found, even a note warning the emergency services of the carbon fumes. He had apparently rigged a tube from his car exhaust into the house, and tied himself down to prevent failure in his pursuit.

It is now known that Brad had been depressed, and notes infer a state of despair and loneliness, despite his relationship with his fiancee Pamela Sullivan. His fiancee was unaware of his mental state, and the suicide notes included instructions for contacting her in his departure.

Brad was the voice behind the "Boston" epic and heart moving song, "More than a feeling". Therein lies some irony, and it is truly sad that the world has lost such a great musical talent.

The WHO postpone gig in Florida

14.03.07

The WHO were forced, this evening, to cancel a performance at the Ford Amphitheatre, in Tampa Bay, Florida US. In front of eager fans, the band had no option but to cancel the gig, as Roger Daltrey had to leave the stage after only briefly appearing for the first song, due to severe bronchitis. Daltrey has completely lost his voice, and any continued performance was impossible.

Townsend later emerged to brief the waiting fans with the bad news, apologising, he comforted the audience with a promise to return with a "substitute" free gig for the disappointed fans later in the Month. Townsend is heading to the SXSW, (South by South West), festival in Austin, Texas, where he will give a key not speech later in the week. The WHO will then continue with their US tour leg, with the next performance scheduled for Saturday March 17th in Mexico city.

Let’s hope RD is fully recovered in this short rest fall between gigs.

...Further to this item, the WHO have now been forced to cancel the Mexico City performance this evening. Roger Daltrey is still very sick, and it is not clear at this time any immediate continuation with performances. This is the second occasion that the band has had to abandon performances on the US leg of their World tour. The performance previously abandoned in Tampa Bay, is still scheduled to go ahead on the 25th March, next Sunday.
