U2 Receive 5 Grammy awards

U2 received a surprising 5 Grammy awards this year, picking up trophies for "Album of the Year" and "Best Rock Album", ("How to dismantle an Atomic bomb"), "Song of the year" and "Best Rock Performance By A Duo Or Group With Vocal", ("Sometimes You Can't Make It On Your Own"), and "Best Rock Song" ("City Of Blinding Lights").

U2 released "How to dismantle and Atomic bomb", in 2004. They have previously received 2 awards for single "Vertigo", "Best Rock Performance By A Duo Or Group With Vocal", and "Best Short Form Music Video" at the 47th awards ceremony. They were nudged out of "Best Rock Album" in 2004 by Green Day for their top selling album, "American idiot".

U2 and Grammy'sPrior to this, at the 44th ceremony in 2001, U2 received 4 Grammy’s, with their album, "All That You Can't Leave Behind" winning "Best Rock Album", and single "Stuck In A Moment You Can't Get Out Of", winning "Best Pop Performance By A Duo Or Group With Vocal".

U2 have now racked up a total of 21 Grammy awards, winning eight of these in the last two years. This year U2 won every category they were nominated for. "If you think this is going to go to our head, it’s too late" remarked Bono to his fellow artists at the Staples Center, LA.

Meanwhile, Green Day picked up a Grammy for "Record of the Year", for "Boulevard of Broken Dreams". "Best Solo Rock Vocal Performance", went to Bruce Springsteen for, "Devils and Dust". "Best Hard Rock Performance", went to System of a Down for, "B.Y.O.B." With "Best Metal Performance" going to Slipknot for, "Before I Forget". White Stripes picked up "Best Alternative Music Album", for "Get Behind Me Satan".

The 48th annual Grammy awards ceremony, (the US music industry equivalent of Academy awards), was held this year on 08.02.06 at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, CA.
