After what must be one of the most gruelling and successful tours in their career, Green Day finally get some time for R&R, after they put the last of their "American Idiot" dates behind them. Just as their acclaimed album receives yet another Grammy nomination.
After their final tour dates in Australia this month, the band look set for some much needed rest over the holiday period. This has been perhaps Green Day's most successful year to date, not only receiving numerous accolades for their superb album "American Idiot", they have reached new audiences and fans alike. With radio and video channel promotion the band has not had the like of before, and justly deserved. "American Idiot" has been termed a Rock opera for the 21st century.
So what do they do next?
Billie Joe admits, "It was a crazy year, but it's been the best year of our career," he says. "It's going to be kind of sad for it to end, but, you know, we don't have any regrets." Although the band plan some discussions about a possible follow up album early next year, Billie Joe makes it clear there is no panic. "We'll start with silence, and that's how we'll be able to find the inspiration to find another record," he says. And rightly so, time to finally put those feet up for a while and take a well earned vacation.
It has been estimated that Green Day have grossed some $36 million for their 70 "American Idiot" tour dates. "Not a bad little earner Rodney.."
